Why Your Blonde Hair Is Looking Dull

Do you feel like when you first leave the salon, your hair looks bright and beautiful, but as time goes on, the color starts looking darker, dull, and flat? Here's why that's happening and what you can do to prevent it:
Hard Water Build-Up
If you don't already have a shower head filter at home, you need to get one ASAP! The minerals that are in most people's tap water will build up in the hair over time, leaving it looking dull and brassy, and it can actually make your hair brittle and cause breakage. These minerals can also sometimes have a chemical reaction with the hair color or bleach, which can create damage as well. You don't necessarily need a fancy, expensive system. Amazon has some great, affordable options. Click here for the shower head filter I use.
Too Much Purple Shampoo
Purple shampoo is great for counteracting excess yellow tones in blonde hair, however, you have to be careful to not overdo it. Each time you use purple shampoo, you're depositing a sheer layer of purple onto your hair. If you're using it too often, those layers will build up and end up making your hair look darker and flat. I recommend only using it every third or fourth time you wash your hair, and use a clarifying shampoo beforehand.
Damage From Excess Heat Styling Or Bleaching
If your hair is damaged and extra porous, either from bleaching it too much or using hot tools, it will lack shine and not be as reflective, causing it to look flat, dull and brassy. I love the Olaplex No. 3 treatment to restore the hair's integrity, and the Olaplex No. 7 oil will not only add shine, but is also a great heat protectant.
How To Make Your Hair Bright & Shiny Again
The easiest way to brighten up your blonde again is to book an appointment with your hairstylist. However, if you're looking for an at-home remedy, the Malibu Crystal Gel treatment works wonders at removing any build-up that may be making your hair appear dull. After you do that treatment, start using a clarifying shampoo once a week and follow the tips I mentioned above, and your hair will be good as new!
